V8 Supercars Australia: Jamie Whincup lidera após nove etapas

O australiano Jamie Whincup (Holden/Triple Eight) lidera a temporada 2014 do International V8 Supercars Championship, após a disputa de nove etapas.

Atual campeão, Whincup assumiu a liderança do campeonato na oitava etapa da temporada, a Queensland Coates Hire Ipswich 400, Queensland Raceway.

Ele venceu as duas primeiras provas da etapa. A terceira etapa, a mais longa, foi vencida pelo compatriota James Courtney (Holden/ HRT).

Neste final de semana foi disputada a Sydney Motorsport Park 400, no Sydney Motorsport Park.

As vitórias foram de pilotos da Nova-Zelândia.  Shane Van Gisbergen (Holden/ Tekno) venceu as duas primeiras e Scott McLaughlin (Volvo/ Polestar GRM) a última (e mais longa).

Whincup lidera o campeonato com 2025 pontos. O australiano Mark Winterbottom (Ford/ FPR) é o segundo com 1890 pontos.

A próxima etapa, a Wilson Security Sandown 500, no Sandown Raceway, em Melbourne, acontece no dia 14 de setembro.

A prova marca o inicio de três etapas no formato de endurance.Â
